How Move Clip Art in MS Word

The reason the image in the previous section won't move to the right is because of the way it is formatted. The wrapping style is set to "In line with text". What this means is that you can move your image up, and the text will shift to the top and bottom of the image. But it won't move to the right. It will be like this one below:

The text is at the top and bottom of the image

To move your image anywhere on the page, do the following:

  1. Click on your image so that it has the black squares around its edges

  2. Next, click Format from the menu bar

  3. From the drop down menu, choose Picture

  4. The following dialogue box appears (Word 2000)

The Format Picture dialogue box

This is not the tab strip we want, so click on the word "Layout". The Layout tab strip displays. It looks like the one below:

The Layout tab

Make sure your settings are like the one in the image:

Wrapping style - Square
Horizontal alignment - Right.

Click on both of these with your left mouse button. When you're done, click the OK button.

You should now be able to move your image around the page, and put it anywhere you want. To do that:

  • Click on your image with your left mouse button

  • The mouse pointer will change shape to a pointed-arrow cross, and the black boxes around the edges are now white boxes:

The black squares are now white squares

  • Keep the left mouse button held down, and drag your mouse outwards to the right

  • You should see something like this on your page:

The image is being moved to the right

  • What you need to do is position the image near the top. You can move your image to the right of the text. Like in the picture below:

The image is now over the text

  • When your image is in position, let go of your left mouse button

  • Your document should now look like the one below

The image has now been moved to the right of the text
